How We Try to Keep You Informed During the Pandemic

January 20, 2021 -- Ever wondered what happens when there is a case of COVID-19 at a school? A lot of work goes on behind the scenes. After the notification from Public Health, it usually begins with school division and school-based administration identifying potential close contacts in the school. This work is done in consultation with and confirmed by Public Health.

What is contact tracing? We are trying to find out where the staff member or student was on the day that they were contagious. Were they in one classroom or several? Did they go throughout the school or stay in one office? How close did they sit or stand to others and for how long?

Once that has been determined, the school division springs into action. This could be during the school day, at night or on weekends or holidays. To keep all employees and families informed, we follow these steps:

COVID Identified, Parents Called, School Open

December 9, 2020 – the Saskatchewan Health Authority informed us that there was one case of COVID-19 in an individual at Ecole Wascana Plains School.

For the safety of students and staff, and in consultation with Public Health, we have informed all close contacts and provided them information about self- isolation. The affected students and class will begin remote learning on Friday, December 11, 2020

Information letters will be sent to families on December 9.  The school remains open for all other students.

As this information was shared during the school day, there was no automated message made to school families.

If there are any additional close contacts at the school, they will be contacted directly by Public Health. A close contact is someone who has been within two metres (six feet) of someone for a cumulative 15 minutes.

COVID Identified, Parents Contacted, School Remains Open

November 17, 2020-- A positive case of COVID-19 has been identified in an individual at École Wascana Plains School.

Close contacts were telephoned by school staff and school division administration. They were given information and direction on how long they should self-isolate.

The affected class has been closed and students will participate in remote learning. Those students will return to school on Monday, November 30th.

École Wascana Plains School remains open for all other students.

COVID Identified, Parents Called, School Open

U-Turn - We Ticket

Today’s School Zone Safety lesson is brought to you by the Letter “U”, and a recent increase in illegal U-Turns in Regina school zones.

1)    U cannot make a U-turn in a school zone.

2)    If U do, U are breaking a law: the Regina Traffic Bylaw.

3)    If U do, U could put nearby pedestrians and school children at risk.

4)    U also risk getting into a collision that carries the possibility of injury/property damage to U or others.

5)    U could also get a ticket.

6)    If U get a ticket, U may have to pay hundreds of dollars, which means you have less $$ for things U really wanted to buy.

7)    Remember U are a role model to other drivers and school-age children, who will be parents and drivers someday.
