Concert Prep is Everywhere!

Good afternoon families,

You will have received a note regarding the concert today from your classroom teacher.  Students and teachers are busy preparing and there is candy cane fever throughout the building!  We look forward to seeing you all next Tuesday.  Anyone willing or able to direct traffic in the church parking lot are encouraged to call the office to volunteer as we expect a full house and need all staff participation inside for the show itself.

Our school traffic concerns continue to be an issue so we ask again that you take note of all signs when dropping off or picking up your children.  We had a near miss this week as a child was difficult to see because of the cars parked in the no-stopping zone north of the staff's parking lot.  No stopping means no stopping - not even for the 15 seconds while your child exits the car.

Enrolment in our English classes continues to climb therefore we will be adding another teacher after the break.  Great news!  This teacher will provide support in our core academic areas of numeracy and literacy.  We will not be reassigning the homerooms but rather offering small group instruction where possible and where needed.

Thank you to Zakariah, a student in grade 8, who initiated a toy drive for less fortunate children in our city (letter provided to you by your classroom teacher).  Thank you to families who have already made donations - so nice to see the box filling up so quickly!

Candy cane sales were very popular and allowed the UBC (United Bison Council, our student representative council) to make a significant donation to Creative Kids Canada. They look forward to telling you the grand total at the concert next week.

Basketball is underway with try-outs for both boys and girls.  Thank you to our volunteer coaches, Terry Perras (boys' coach with teacher supervisor Mme Revet), Owein Heiliger and Chris Ottenson (girls' coach with teacher supervisor Ms. McMillan).  Games will begin in January.

Our superintendent, Luc Lerminiaux, has become the director of Prairie Valley Schools so we welcome Mrs. Laurie Gatzke to our team.  She visited our school today and commented on how engaged the students were with their work and lessons.

Finally, if you ordered school clothing please note that the order has gone in and should be ready for delivery by the week of January 15th.

See you next Tuesday, keep hoping for warm weather (this ice has got to melt!) and keep sending us your awesome kids - it is a pleasure spending our days with them!
