A Busy Week!

September 23, 2018

1.  Save the dates! The SCC is hosting an evening Halloween Dance on October 25th (primarily for grades K-4 but older students/siblings are welcome). December 18th will be our annual Winter Concert (location: Living Hope on Arcola).

2.  Please save your Boston Pizza receipts and send them to our main office. Boston Pizza has partnered with the SCC and they donate 10% of all receipts to our parent council.

3.  Revera has moved into our community and has reached out to partner with our school. Students will be invited to visit the retirement living complex to interact with residents or groups of residents will visit our school in the near future. Plans include reading, craft, trivia and tech sessions where students will either learn or teach.  Residents include several retired teachers who are also willing to provide tutoring services for a fee. Please contact the office if you are interested in engaging a tutor.

4.  Catholic Family Services is hosting two sessions to support students transitioning through the divorce or separation of their parents. Sessions begin late October and are most applicable to students 8-11 years old. For more information please call Ashley at 306 525-0521 extension 231.

5.  Orange Shirt Day is this Friday and all students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt.  Students will participate in many activities in both their classrooms and with their learning buddies as we learn more about Residential Schools.

6.  Our grade 3-6 French Immersion classrooms are very large in number so we have hired Madame Joanne Yeo part-time to assist with numeracy, her specialty and passion.  Welcome Joanne!

7.  Our school is collecting toonies for Terry Fox this week and participating in the Terry Fox Run on Wednesday. Students who contribute will have their names put in a draw for either a t-shirt or the opportunity to pie either Mrs. Crawford or Mrs. Cornwall! Our school goal is $1100.

Finally, thank you for your patience last week as we transitioned students and teachers. It is the reality of our community as we continue to grow but change - even when it means smaller class sizes - can be disruptive.  I sincerely hope all students who made a move quickly find joy and a sense of belonging in their new classrooms.
