Wishing for Warmer Weather!

Good morning Bison families,

1. This week promises to be a little warmer so we should be outside for all recesses.  Unless it is -25 with the wind chill we are outside so please ensure your children come to school with all the necessary clothing.

2. Basketball teams are up and running and games begin this week (Tuesdays for boys, Wednesdays for girls).  Our teams are also traveling to Balfour next Monday for the feeder tournament.  Best of luck to all the players and their coaches!

3. Traffic is an ongoing issue but I am happy to share that we have been selected for a CAA School Zone Safety Assessment, a project involving the CAA, both school divisions and the city police.  We'll share the results once the assessment is complete. The city is also considering two bylaws that would support our efforts - a 30 km zone and a no u-turn policy in school zones.

4. We are accepting registrations for 2019-2020 Kindergarten.  Please drop by our office or download a copy using the tab ABOUT US at the top of the page on our website.  If you need more information regarding French Immersion please give me a call.

5. This Friday is a Professional Development Day for staff so students do not have classes.

6.  Next Friday you will be receiving your first Progress Report. All parents in grades 1-8 also have access to the Parent Portal so you can see current results and not wait until the end of the term.  If you do not have your username/password please visit the office as we can not send them via the agenda due to privacy laws.

7. We continue to add more students (presently at 594) so have added a support teacher - Mrs. Johnstone - to support numeracy and literacy.  We also welcome M. Clement, thanks to a grant from the ministry.  He will support our French Immersion students with their oral skills.

8.  Great news!  Our grade 4 class and their teacher Shannon Brown applied for an Arts Council grant and won!  We have since hired Allan Dotson, an artist from Regina, who will help the students develop a 5-panel art installation that will hang in our main presentation area.  The panels will depict the changing land on which our school sits.

9.  Hot Lunch - The SCC has organized another hot lunch for February 13th. Please return to healthyhunger.ca to order from Pizza Hut.

Hope to see you soon,

Mme Revet
