Good afternoon families,
1. We added another teacher last week as some of our classrooms were getting big. We had roughly 40 new students join us in August but are now back to a comfortable pupil-teacher-ratio. Ms. Kaitlin Hardcastle is teaching grade 4/5.
2. Our larger size (735) has led to many questions about where we go from here in terms of space and boundaries. Director Greg Enion, Trustee Dr. Jane Ekong, and Superintendent Lisa Frei have accepted my invitation to come meet with all interested parents on Thursday, October 10th at 7PM on the main presentation stairs.
3. In the next week or so we'll start an online clothing store for anyone wishing to buy school clothing. SportFactor will oversee the online store and the sales. We'll be offering sweatshirts, hoodies, t-shirts, sweats, joggers and baseball caps this year.
4. What a generous community! The donations continue to come in so we are now over $1800 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Thank you for supporting us and this important foundation.
5. Next week we will be participating in Orange Shirt Day and teachers are preparing their students by reading books or by discussing the reality of residential schools. We are fortunate again to have tipis for the day. We hope to see everyone in some version of an orange shirt on Monday.
6. Your new SCC was elected last week and members this year include:
Chair - Alvin Yau, Vice-Chair - Janice Gayton-Randall, Treasurer - Na Drever, Secretary - Andrea Heller. Voting members are: Cindy Raab, Heather Pomerleau, Julie Wermie, Shannon Jones, Charlene Jones. An amazing 29 people showed up for the meeting! Next meeting is October 17th - all are always invited.
From your SCC: Who loves eating at Boston Pizza? Plus, there is one conveniently located in our area. Any time that you dine in or take out you can earn food credits to be used for the staff and students at Ecole Wascana Plains. After your visit to Boston Pizza, save your receipt and drop them off at the school office. Receipts have to be entered within 30 days of purchase, so please get them in ASAP.
